Man who carried AR-15 on his back inside mall
BEAUMONT -
A Beaumont store owner charged with disorderly conduct insists he never broke the law and was just exercising his second amendment rights.
On Dec. 28, Derek Poe stopped by GameStop in Parkdale Mall before going to the store he owns in the mall, Golden Triangle Tactical. While at GameStop, he was stopped by police officers and the AR-15 that was slung around his back was seized.
Poe says he was just exercising his right to open carry a long rifle.
Police have charged him with disorderly conduct because he displayed a firearm "In a manner calculated to alarm."
Poe disagrees saying his rifle was facing barrel down on his back and his hands weren't even on the gun.
"It was clearly obvious I didn't have criminal intent. I had a drink in one hand and a bag in the other. I didn't commit a crime. I legally carried a long arm in Texas," Poe said.
Detectives say witnesses gave statements that they were "terrified" and "thought they were going to die."
An Open Carry Freedom Walk is scheduled for Jan. 18 in the Gander Mountain parking lot. The event was planned before Poe was stopped in the mall with his firearm.
The walk will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

People are too ignorant. They see things so one sided.

I would say people were being drama queens when they say they thought they were going to die, but I suppose in light of recent events it isn't a hugely irrational fear if you see a guy with a gun in public.
What is irrational however, is that they thought calling the police would stop him from killing them if he really wanted to.

Everybody that is going for this man, Let me ask you this. Would you be totally calm in a situation like this? NO, do even try to say yes. If you see a stranger in public with a large gun like this you will have some concern as well. Im 100% for gun rights but like this, no I am not. If you want a gun on you, keep it concealed (with a concealed license) and not out for everyone to see.

Walking into a store that clearly does not support Obama.

What I don't understand is why people are so terrified of guns. They worry more about guns than what our Government does or what's happening around the world.
This man did nothing wrong, but he got charged for a crime?

So if the mall were to have a shooting and this man stopped several deaths/injuries from occurring would you still say he's an idiot? The 2nd amendment is for your protection.
