A tiny downtown Toronto police station descended into chaos Wednesday night after the sudden arrival of pop superstar Justin Bieber, who was there to surrender to police over the alleged December assault of a limo driver.

Arriving just after 7:30 p.m. local time, Mr. Biebers appearance prompted hysterical screams from a huge gathering of fans and onlookers as yellow-jacketed police officers were quickly deployed to push a path through the crowd to allow the superstar to enter through a side door.

As of press time, dozens of fans had their faces pushed to the windows of the 52 Division police station, screaming with delight at the slightest glimpse of Mr. Bieber, who is in the Ontario capital fresh from a brief stint in a Florida jail.

Just before Mr. Biebers much-anticipated arrival, as many as 100 people had gathered outside in the -10C weather angling for a possible sighting of the 19-year-old singer.

Earlier, rumours had circled of a motorcade of black SUVs that may or may not have contained the singer.
