I built my PC a few months ago, and it was all running fine without any problems. However very recently I've came across an annoying problem that needs to be fixed.

Every now and then, i'll get a lag spike on my computer. One minute it's running smoothly, and then the next the cursor will jump and videos/windows animations will stutter. It varies in severity; it can last for a few seconds and in some cases even a half a minute. This morning was the worst I've ever experienced. I was playing an MMO and the whole system just stuttered for around a minute and my internet connection dropped for around 30 seconds.

At first I was worried it may be a virus/malware, but I ran a system scan and nothing was detected. (using Avast)

Please could anyone suggest what the problem may be and how I could fix it? I would be very grateful.
