It is leading up to a main event triggered by the past.

It's a ton of foreshadowing and symbolism. Tons of those two things littered in the small details of that series. That's what I LOVED about it. So great. Keep an eye out and see if you can figure out what the teddy bear and the eye symbolize. You'll piece it all together in a few season's time.
