So im custom building a PC to save towards, And im selecting the motherboard and i have not a clue what im looking for :O.
Can someone give me a few good ones?
If it is of any relivance i will be using it for video rendering and some gaming. Cheers

What is your desired or aimed platform?
AMD go AM3+ or FM2+
For Intel look for 1150 - B85 (Non OCing) or Z87 (OCing).
What chip are you wanting to use?

Why would you want last gen hardware in a new build?
Haswell is pretty much the same price, but for newer tech.

You should go with an ASUS motherboard.

Whether you're gaming or not, this is what you should look for in a board, regardless of socket.
- A form factor that fits in your case.
- A good enough power delivery (VRM) to run your CPU. TDP figures are provided by the manufacturer to help you out here.
- If you plan to overclock, make sure the power delivery and its cooling is adequate for what you okan to do.
- Enough PCIe bandwidth (determined by your CPU unless your board has a PLX chip) and the right slot configuration for your graphics or other expansion cards.
- Enough I/O (ports) to do what you need.
- Any specific features that you want. Intel SRT, voltage pinouts, dual BIOS, etc.
- Enough DIMM slots for the RAM you will use.
