Richard Nixon and the Watergate Scandal
Who is Richard Nixon? Richard Nixon was the 37th president of the United States? What makes him different from every other president? Nixon was the very first president to face impeachment charges and was forced to resign. In his second election, things start to get rough as soon as it began, that means he couldnt carry out his full second term because of the Watergate scandal.
Richard Nixons bright future started off with him serving beneath the power of Dwight D. Eisenhower from the years 1953-1961. After Eisenhowers time was over, Nixon ran for president but he was unable to achieve it and lost to a very close amount of electoral votes to President John F. Kennedy. But Nixon never backed down and he was very determined to become president. Soon enough, he was elected in the year 1969. Richard Nixon represented the Republican Party. I chose to research Nixon because I was always curious to know the truth in why he was the only president to resign from what all of the dedication and honor he went through to achieve something great and it was burnt down in a matter of moments.
A man is not finished when he is defeated. He is finished when he quits. Richard Nixon was so devoted to being president. He was extremely loyal to himself and always convinced himself to not withdraw from his battles. Nixons main reason for resigning was the huge WATERGATE SCANDAL. Nixon was hearing things that the Democratic Party wasnt supposed to be releasing to the public. He started to get more interested in it which eventually started the Watergate Scandal.
What is the Watergate Scandal? The Watergate scandal was where 5 burglars broke into the Watergate complex to attempt to search through files and tap the telephones to see exactly what the Democrats were releasing. The mistaking got caught by a security guard and the 5 people who broke into the Watergate complex were soon arrested. Eventually, Nixon was held accountable because there was a 25,000 dollar cashiers check put into one of the burglars account. Accordingly, Richard had tapes and evidence that he was a part of the whole scandal which eventually made him resign the title as the President of the United States.
Richard Nixon was forced to step down from presidency. Mostly everyone thought that it was the right decision and he failed to honor his country. Nixon made the right decision and now is an example to America of what you shouldnt do.
My perspective of Richard Nixon is that you shouldnt always take things into your own hands no matter who you are because everything happens for a reason. This person is not an inspiration to me because I never knew how corrupt he was until I learned about the Watergate scandal. As Richard Nixon quotes, Finishing second in the Olympics gets you silver. Finishing second in politics gets you oblivion.
