Have you tried it in various USB ports from your PC?
Have you tried it in different PC's?
Does it work if you plug it into a DVD Player or TV?
Can you post an image of what it says when you plug it in?

Go to the start menu, and search for "run". Open that and type CMD. Depending on your Windows version, you can simply type CMD into the search bar and open the Command Prompt.

When this is open, type the following, without the brackets: [Chkdsk F: /r] Also remember that I am using the letter F as a reference, yours may be another but you can find it in My Computer.

Back to the point, when you have pressed enter, it will start repairing damaged files and you will see some of your filenames (relief!) before it finally asks if you want to save lost chains into another location. These are essentially remnants of damaged files, I tend to click "Yes" just in case.

This is what I found on another site, This should work for you.

He doesn't want to format it if he thinks there are files on it...

Get some unerase program that looks at the sectors, try GetDataBack on it for example.

re formatting it will not erase anything, what happens is when you need to install a OS off a flash drive it re formats it to what windows wants, but then your other data is hidden, therefore you need to format it back to original to get that un seen data back.

Are these files by chance xbox files? If so, only a few tools will allow you to see the files stored on the flash drive.
