Yes you're able to do that. Just make sure you know what you're doing before you do anything that you might regret. Cheers, bud.

If that's the same disc drive as your old one then you should be good.

Disc drives are pretty straight forward to install too.

First you need to know what drive you have that one is suitable for 2008 onwards for phat 360

slim 360 is totally different drive the dg4s or hitachi drives

Then you need to get your drive key from your old drive using a probe ...its been a while since i was doing this so may not need a probe.

then you create a firmware with this new key ...at this stage you can create custom firmware but either is fine and you re write this firmware to the dvd drive.

Again all this is from memory from modding 360s for years but if they have changed the key pairing method to allow quicker drive transfers then it could be plug and play but i doubt thats happened and if you dont have the flashing tools you wont be able to flash the drive even with stock firmware.

What "Mac" said.

You need to flash your old dvd key from the old drive into the new drive.

I believe you can use Jungle Flasher for that (unless there's a different program to use), just look up a nice detailed TUT.

"If you get the DVD key from your new drive, you can simply insert it into your new nand using the 360 Flash Tool. Just as easy as copying and pasting over the DVD key and drive info, and flashing that nand." You can try this.
