I was in detention earlier, and while sitting around doing nothing, i thought of making this post. What exactly is the point of detention? All you do, at least in my school, is sit around and stare into space. How is that even a punishment? How does me being tardy due to my car pool being late equal a punishment of sitting around doing nothing? If someone can explain to me why detention is useful in the slightest bit except for wasting everyone's time?

MinjerMods wrote That's a brilliant point you got there. I can't even answer to that..
Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or genuine... if sarcastic, please explain why?

Exactly, and my school denies me of even doing my homework while doing nothing but sitting around and dying of boredom... They should really just give a punishment if it has to do with the act done.

I think since corporal punishment is out of the window, this is all they are allowed to do.
But yes, I agree, it is a very useless punishment.

I don't even get the point of detention too. I bet they think its the time for us to ''think about our actions'' well it doesn't help or sometimes there's other reasons to have detention other than being bad.
In my school there is a room called the Exit Room where you have to stay there the whole day and you cant go outside at breaks. The only way to get out of Exit room is when you have to get work or when you go to get your lunch or if you need to go to the toilet

Exactly, i had to miss work today because of the stupid detention, and it isn't even my fault that i had detention, since my car pool was just late a couple of days.

And the teachers say they don't even want to give out detentions, then why give them out for stupid reasons or reasons that weren't even your fault

Boredom is a solid punishment.
Being "Bored" is probably the #1 thing teens complain about on social media.

its just meant to be a punishment.
It doesn't accomplish anything except it attempts to deter you from doing wrong again.
