Well if you want it as a png (best quality) I saved my image in photoshop as 200 x 200 pixels. It was exactly 100 KB

That didn't rhyme...
You can use any resolution as long as the file stays under 100kb. The site resizes them to 100x100px though, so for optimal quality design in a 100x100 workspace.
