The i5 will be better for gaming, but the i7 will be better for rendering etc

Sorry, how exactly would the i5 "be better for gaming"? It wouldn't be better at all. The i7 is more powerful. In fact, both CPU's would be almost identical for gaming, the i7 may perform a little better than the i5 but not by much.

OP- The i7 is more powerful. It will perform a little better than the i5 so if you're on a tight budget, the i5 will do. The i7 is better for multi-tasking. Also, the i7 is much more future-proof than the i5.

Most games cannot utilize hyper threading that's the only difference between an i5 and i7. So an i5 if you want to game will be fine.

This guy knows what he is talking about.

I personally would go for the i7. Eventually the i5 will be 2 models behind when the next intel cpu comes out, and when it does the i7 will only be one model behind. I am an AMD fan, so if I could, I would steer you in AMD's direction.

I don't disagree. The i7 may perform a little better in gaming. The i5 performs almost as good, if not, just as good as the i7. However, the i7 is more future-proof. It's just that you said the i5 would "be better for gaming" which is false. Just thought that I should point that out. i5 would be the preferred choice for a tight budget. However, if OP has enough money, he should definitely go for the i7, in case he ever needs to edit/render or multi-task. As well, as the fact it will last him longer than the i5 would.

But if gaming is the sole purpose, why spend the extra on an i7. Its not like myself, Craigyy, Buxtyy, Gigahertz, Stedos, Alexxy, Editiionz etc. recommend a i5 4670(K) for gaming use over an i7.

Yes, the i7 is better, but it only shines where hyper-threading is used. if it is noy going ot be utilized, like in gaming, then there is no point spending the extra money.

I recommend i5's because 99% of people on here will buy an i7 thinking the more expensive it is = the better it is.

Therefore if I see anyone with a "gaming" rig with an i7 inside it, my first though will be: "what an idiot".
