So, my friend just bought a R9 290 and he has a AMD FX 8120. He has a 600 W XTreme Gear PSU at the moment. He is planning on buying a ThermalTake 1375W. I told him that, that isn't worth it and is way to over kill. I just don't want him to kill his PC or mess it up a little.

What should he get?

1375W.... My God, is he completely clueless?

I bet that system won't ever use much more that 500W even under full load @ 1080p.

Get a XFX 550 Core and save him a lot of money.

1375 is completely overkill for every build in the known universe.

that much power would be good if you had muliple gpu setup

He argues saying that why should get a low PSU like that when the card recommends 700W

Since the 780Ti runs perfect on a 450W Unit, I'm pretty sure a 290 will run on a 550.

So he either gets a 550 and gets accepted into humanity, or ignores me and is declined yet again.

You'd only get something like a 1.4kW supply if you were running four high end cards with the rest of the system being extremely high end too.
