Any responsible person would immediately ring their bank or go talk to them about it. Yes, the bank screwed up but it's about right and wrong, and spending that money was clearly wrong.

It's the banks fault, but you would be shocked to find this money, so surely the first thing would be to question the money and ask family and check up in it, he shouldn't have withdrawn it in all fairness!

He was not told it was an accident and someone made a mistake so I think that the person that made the error should pay for it. You should not blindly add 31,000$ to the wrong person's account.

The teenager is 100% in the wrong if he had to lie and say it was an inheritance thats proof enough he knew it wasn't right to spend that money. The bank did make a mistake and thats what people do but that doesn't give the teen the right to take advantage of there mistake and spend that money that was intended for somebody else.

I would more than likely ask the bank why the money was in the account before I went around spending it all. He knew the money wasn't his in the first place; so technically that's stealing in a roundabout way.

But............. The money was given to him. So it's really the banks fault. The bank should have to pay for the losses.

its the banks staff's fault so in my opinion he should not have to give a dime back because he honestly though that he just had gotten money put into his account he did not know it was another persons money
