would this be to hot to solder led mods and solder my coolrunner

Yes, that would be perfectly fine. That being said, there are many cheaper alternatives.

Hakko are a very good make but a cheap 30w soldering iron would be more than enough

I agree, it would work, but you wouldn't need to spend to much.
