Create a new character and save it as something random, once you click save it will say something like you have done the tutorial before would you like to skip? click yes, then leave the game and wait until the main story mode loads up, once you're on that you need to press start, go across to online, swap character. now pick the character that you JUST CREATED and continue to join an online game, it will then prompt you with - 'would you like to change your appearance, this may be your only chance to do so'. at this point you need to unplug your ethernet cable or router and plug it back in after like 1 minute.
Now once you come back to your xbox it will ask you to log in, simply log in as usual and when it says its loading GTA:Online in the bottom right corner, just press the B button to return yourself to GTA story mode, now go back onto swap character and click your old character (the one whose appearance you want to change) And you will get prompted with the change your character looks message again, simply click A and Voila! you can now change your characters appearance! If it shows that you have no skills it's just a visual effect from the process and your skills will be restored when you join the game.

This glitch was found by Ice I take no credit for it whatsoever. (Haven't been able to find any video tutorials yet.)
