I would probably recommend a Golden Retriever or a Black Labrador, they are great companions, easy and friendly.

Golden Retrievers are always great dogs. Also German Shephards and Labradors are great. Pm me if you need any dog help as I know a ton from fostering dogs and having two of my own.

Not necessarily. I had one fit through a fence that had probably 6 inches of space for the dog to fit through the posts.
