Which one for a pretty decent but not absolutely amazing PC - I am tempted to go with Intel as they tend to be better?

I'd get the i3-4130 if it were my money. The reason being that its a newer platform, better power consumption and better clock for clock performance. You can also take the i3 out and put an i5 or i7 in the same motherboard in the future should you wish.
That said, the FX6300 has six physical cores so in games it will pull ahead, that and the fact it can be overclocked give it the advantage in games but the i3 will be more suited to general tasks.

Erm id reccomend stepping up with amd to an amd - 6350 PileDriver 3.9ghz 6 cores
I have this chip my self and works a charm the new piledriver chips are best bang for buck
The chip turns off what its not using and also OC's itself a little when needed (STOCK COOLING CAN BE USED)
I know the chip takes 125Watts but the new piledrivers are the new technology (USED TO BE INTEL ALL THE WAY)

That's what I was thinking - this CPU should easily last a few years before I might want to upgrade and as it has the same socket as many i5s and i7s - the motherboard can stay - unless I wanted to upgrade that as well but (now im not an expert) but the motherboard doesn't make a huge difference - assuming you start with a pretty decent one in the first place.

Intel processors tend to hold value, so you can always ebay it when you're done with it. I'd suggest a B85 motherboard with the ports on the back you want, then it'll keep it nice and cheap.

Buxtyy wrote I'd be more inclined to grab this one. Better range of rear I/O, and has a couple of PCI x1 slots for additional networking or something.

Ok thanks,
I have found all my parts on pcpartpicker just so I can show what it is I was planning on building (I am not going to order through there) - could you give your opinion on the other parts.

It's not showing pricing for half of the parts there. Do you want to put them into your basket on Scan then use Gyazo or KyleCap to screencap it?
