Doesn't this fall under the regulation of investigatory powers act (2000)? If so, then is it not illegal to be watched without permission ect? Im sure it has to be lawful?

To be lawful.
.the interception has to be by or with the consent of a person carrying on a business, for purposes relevant to that persons business and using that business own telecommunications system..

It all can be used for blackmail under the right circumstances. Let's say you get into a position of power and have a completely different view on how to run things than the rest of the government. They then can take that information they have and threaten you with your personal information.

They can also, potentially, end up accurately predicting your next moves based on the information they have on you. We are creatures of habit after all. I just see nothing good in the long run with this data collection.

in which case (if your ending hypothesis is correct) they target those who are unpredictable, monitor them, someone with the same routine is much less likely to be the terrorist than the "loose cannon"

i reckon if the NSA is watching you, you should get over it. rather people be found to be terrorists and apprehended than everyone online be free and these people plotting in secret with no one to find them

I hope not, But then again I highly doubt they can watch over seven billion of us at the same time, but if they do I don't mind but its just a bit weird if they watch you. It should only be used in a crime situation IMO.

i think that can and in some cases if they need to they will watch what your doing but its not possible to watch everyone they mostlikley focus on the people that seem to be more of a threat but if you do nothing wrong you should have no problem with them watching you because your not going to get in trouble. i personally am fine with them monitoring everyone because it very well could save someones life in some situations

Im not sure if they watch me personally, but I mean it really doesn't bother me if they do because its not like im doing things that im hiding from people. I just think that its a complete invasion of privacy. Im sure they watch some people closely, and if they want to waste their time on me so be it! Theres no benefit in watching me haha.

I rather them go through the proper channels if they suspect me of anything. Get a warrant, then conduct a search. I just find it a problem that they have information on people without having a warrant to have said information. Basically wiretapping without a warrant. Sure, maybe they don't usually look at the information unless they do have a warrant, but that is not the point. They shouldn't even have the information without a warrant.

Corncake wrote Do you think the NSA watches you? Do you care if they watch you? Personally I don't care if they watch me, I am not a terrorist of any sorts and if it can save just one persons life, then the agency would be effective in my opinion. What's yours?

Also: If you don't know what the NSA is here is a video

Ever heard of Watch_Dogs? The NSA could be running a program that mirrors CTOS (Well atleast the facial recognition and information part). Which in that case would be a bad thing, cause if a hacker were to hack into it he would have access to all your information (including: Where you live, your income, social security number, etc.).
