I'd say go with a Note 3 or the HTC One Mini, but it's clearly up to you on what you want.

Depends on how you use your phone but i'd recommend the Nexus 5 or the Note 3. Oh and the Moto X isn't half bad either.

I just got the HTC One M8 about 4 hours ago and I love it
My friend has the S5, but I prefer the M8 over it myself.
They're both great phones though!

I would personally go with the S4, because there's not that many good features on the S5, but it's up to you if you're willing to spend the extra couple hundred on it.

I just moved from an iPhone 5 to the HTC One M8 and I felt like I've been in the dark for such a long time once I got the new phone.

The HTC One M8 or the Galaxy S5 are your best bet.
