Hey guys just wondering if anyone could help me out I recently bought a new motherboard Asus M5A97 and wanted to try it out but I'm wondering if my current processor is compatible, before I buy my new one, my current one is AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 3400+ 2.20 GHz
Help would be very appreciated

An AMD 64 what? I'd need to know the specific version so I can compare the socket types.

Nope, it's not compatible. Your current 3400+ is a socket 939 processor, while the M5A97 mobo you bought only supports socket AM3+ which is for the new FX series chips.
