okay, so I think its time to make the switch from console to PC. I have a little setup so far but if you guys don't think its a good enough build, help a brotha out. I'm trying to stay within the price range of $700-800 (US). Also if you could use amazon for all the parts that would be perfect (i get discounts)

Heres what i have so far:

Things I would highly recommend considering:

1.) For the RAM, your going to want 2x4gb sticks, not just one 8gb. This will allow the RAM to run in dual channel configuration which is significantly faster. Also, if your spending more than $95 for the RAM, your wasting your money. As long as its at least DDR3 1600mhz in speed or more, your fine.

2.) The HD 7770 is a medium quality card at best, if you want to play modern games on at least high settings (which is very close to the equivalent of console graphics) I'd recommend looking at the Radeon R9 270X or higher, or the Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 or higher. The Radeon R9 270X has similar performance (little bit lower) when compared to the GTX 760, but it's also $50-$80 cheaper depending where you get it and what kind of deals are going on.

3.) Get a full ATX tower case, the bigger the case, the more efficient the cooling will be. You shouldn't need to spend more than $160 tops for a very high quality case. Try to look into getting a case with at least 3 fans stock, and preferably 2 of them be 200mm fans. Getting a case like this will save you from having to buy the "Cooler Master SickleFlow 120 - Sleeve Bearing 120mm Blue LED Silent Fan" which in itself isn't that great; bigger fans provide larger airflow at a quieter operating sound level than their smaller counterparts. I did alot of research when I bought my case, and I can say by far that my case is the best you can get for it's pricepoint. Here's a link to the manufactures webpage for it so you can read up on it:

4.) I saw your getting an unlocked i5 processor. If you intend to overclock, you should strongly consider an aftermarket cpu fan and heatsink. The stock intel one works, but is nowhere near as efficient as an aftermarket one. The best aftermarket cooler for a low price point would be the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. It's $35 and has the much larger heatsink, a fan for the heatsink, and thermal paste included.

Other than that, everything looks good. Let me know what you think

Don't get the 7770 it is not really that great any more, I had one and it would struggle with modern games on highish settings. I have the 770 now and it runs pretty much everything I want on ultra/max 1080p and the framerate never is an issue

The GTX 770 is a great card with extremely high performance, but that's far out of his pricepoint. He still needs to include a power supply into his build. :coffee:

He might be better off going with an AMD build if the PC will will be used for gaming and not heavy video/photo editing, could save a hundred or so on the CPU and put that towards a better GPU

Ehhhhhh.. I shouldn't be so biased but Intel's single core performance is so much better than AMD's, and the only AMD FX processor that has similar single core performance to Intel is the FX 9590, but that chip is priced quite high and runs very hot, considering it's stock speed is 5ghz.

So the i5 is a LOT better than the AMD FX-Series 8 core processor? (FX-8320)

Also, would a 430 watt power supply be able to hold it?

Yes, for many years Intel has been the higher performing brand for gaming, video editing, music creation, etc. AMD processors are good don't get me wrong, but they are budget designed.
