So I just recently purchased a new router. Nothing fancy, just a standard Netgear. My modem however is around 7 years old. Is it possible for it to be out of date and not be able to keep up with all of the devices connected to my router? I'm not the good with this kind of stuff so I need your opinions, thank you.

It is possible for your modem to be outdated and a little too slow to handle the devices that you are wanting it to.
But, instead of trashing it and getting a new one you could first try and install updated software onto the modem if your modem supports that.
