You can try but I wouldn't count on it. The only thing to do is create another account and buy the game again.

The only thing I have edited is my crosshair.

That very may well be it, although I'm not sure because I don't play much CS-GO but I know if you edit you FOV in CoD Ghost you will get banned for that so it may be simaler to CS-GO.

No it wouldn't, if it did, there would be nobody on CS:GO, everybody edits there crosshair, even pro players, you use the in-game console to do it.

I know for a fact VAC does not ban randomly. If it did then it would accept appeals. If you were banned you were banned for a reason. This is why I do not play VAC games because I love screwing with files.

As do I, I get why their is VAC to stop the cheaters but some times they take it to far. Part of PC gaming is being able to edit what files you want. [not to cheat online of course] but to use them in single player and such.

I overheard something once that they (Valve) is spyware...
They literally look at what you have installed on your computer..
Some game devs look to see if you have Cheat Engine installed and they ban you if you have it, EVEN IF YOU NEVER USED IT.

Some companies are being ridiculous nowadays.

Please re-read my statement above. If you are VAC banned from a Valve game, you are banned from most only Valve games aswell. I never said MW2.

If you really did get banned for editing your crosshairs then that is some major bullshit, unless your crosshairs gave you an unfair advantage in the game.

Welcome to the club, when I had first bought MW2, literally the first game I got into was a modded game, now it's my fault for staying but at the time it was Gun Game on Afghan so I didn't think much harm would be done, the hoster changed it to a challenge lobby mid game and well, I got VAC Banned from MW2 Multiplayer. I went to Valve Support about it and they said it was final, and apparently, a lot of people have gotten VAC Banned from MW2 from jumping into games and being put into some modded lobbies without it getting reversed at all. Kinda sucks as I was looking forward to playing MW2 like I did on Xbox, but again, I should have left when I had gotten into that lobby. Now as for it getting reversed, I doubt it, they are very strict with their VAC Bans and sometimes they might just plain out ignore the request.

Combees wrote If you really did get banned for editing your crosshairs then that is some major ********, unless your crosshairs gave you an unfair advantage in the game.

Some people have even gotten VAC Banned for modding the FOV (like "pro-mod" view on console and such.) It doesn't even give an advantage, just lets you see your gun all the way as well as your arms.
