This right here is why I support guns, and also why I wish more people carried weapons. (Please also let me note this doctor was carrying a handgun in an area that does not allow guns) This doctor is of course in trouble for a carrying a weapon in a zone were it is prohibited, and now he is being investigated. But It makes me happy to see that he potentially saved many lives that day (One person did die) while at the same time risking his self both physically and legally. Now before going on a Pro-Gun rant Ill end it here, so let me know what you think!

" A psychiatrist who was grazed by gunfire from a patient at a suburban Philadelphia hospital Thursday helped stop the gunman by apparently using his own weapon to shoot and wound him, but not before a caseworker was killed, authorities said.

A patient opened fire after entering the doctor's office at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital with the caseworker, District Attorney Jack Whelan said. Witnesses reported hearing yelling before the gunshots.

Several hours after the shooting, investigators had only limited information about what happened inside the closed office but believe the psychiatrist, "from all accounts, would have acted in self-defense," Whelan said.

The doctor, who suffered a wound to his head, "faced a situation where his life was in jeopardy," Whelan said. He was expected to be interviewed by detectives late Thursday."

The hospital has a policy barring anyone except on-duty law enforcement officers from carrying a weapon anywhere on its campus, a spokeswoman for the Mercy Health System said.

But Yeadon Police Chief Donald Molineux said that "without a doubt, I believe the doctor saved lives."

"Without that firearm, this guy (the patient) could have went out in the hallway and just walked down the offices until he ran out of ammunition," the chief said.

Ok in that reasons you say if the doctor hadn't had gun I would of died or the gun guy would of shot a few people, but if either of them had a gun no one would of been killed

We know in a historical context that Japan was considering an invasion on the land mass of the United States of America, but they were afraid to, and the reason they were afraid to [is] because they knew that every American is armed. And although they were not afraid of our armies, they were afraid of our citizens.

As you read that they didn't evade us because every American is armed. So you saying take away OUR guns is just retarded.

I'm Pro-Gun, People have a right to protect themselves, but I suggest making people take tests and make them have to have a license for all guns.

If we take away guns from people with good intentions like self defense, the people that use guns to unfortunately deliberately cause harm to other could still get their hands on firearms.. just like how people who want to buy drugs, even though it's illegal, can still buy them. Taking away all guns is not the answer and only puts people that want to defend themselves in danger

You liberals annoy me. If every staff member there was armed and was trained, that guy wouldn't have even gone there.

Maybe not, but how much more trouble would it have been if one of these armed and trained staff members had a nervous/mental breakdown and stopped caring for their own life? You could be potentially in a bad spot as well. I'm for people having guns, but this discussion isn't black and white. There are problems on both sides of the board.

Yes, But the hospital has a No carry rule where no weapons can be brought on the campus, security isn't even allowed to have a gun on the hospital campus
