Hello,
So with summer here and the heat rising in my room, I thought i'd clean my PC and desk of dust. I removed quite alot with compressed air. Before I talk about temperature, i'll let you know that I'm using 'RealTemp' to view the CPU temperature.
When I first built my PC last October, i'd get around a solid 30-35 celcius whilst idling. Now it fluctuates alot, and goes higher. When I only have Chrome and a few other desktop applications open, it stays about 30c - but sometimes it jumps over 40 for a few seconds?
Another thing that worries me is this 'MHz' reading in the software:

It stays around 800MHz most of the time, but i've noticed it jump up to 2000MHz. Is this normal?
My CPU isn't overclocked, and i'm using a Noctua heatsink/fan.
If anyone could clarify if any of the above is normal, i'd very much appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, i'll leave RealTemp open and keep an eye on it.
I'm still unsure about the Mhz reading though. I just launched a browser based game (RuneScape 3) and it's jumped up to ~3800MHz. Is that normal?
EDIT: I ran FarCry 3 on Ultra settings and it maxed at about 52c. Is this too high? I'd like to overclock but that would make it even higher.

Dude Far Cry is very CPU intensive and a jump like that could be understandable depending on your cooling system, so you have no need to worry and you neutral temps are fine as for an overclock there is nothing stopping you im sure you will be just as able to and your temps will not make a drastic change unless you plan to video edit or use 3D Renders

The temps are fine clean the CPU and put new thermal compound if needed. Your CPU is fine, also its summer time so the ambient temps out side of the case add effect to the temps of the components inside.

The 4770K throttles at 100C (TJ max or thermal junction max temp) to prevent damage and anything below that is a safe operating temp. Clock speed and voltage are lowered when the CPU is idle to save power and produce less heat. Everything is normal and you have tons of room to overclock.
