The forest or rust are good survival games. Also unturned is a great free to play game that just came out and is unlike most free to play games. Rise of Nations is a pretty good strategy game and its on sale for 14 dollars right now.

If you want a real time strategy (i don't know if it's on steam) get Red Alert 3. Pretty fun game.
