A friend of mine was looking at a vendor in the beta and it said that you had to gain a lot more experience after getting level 20 to unlock the items. I mean, they could change it before the game releases, but something like that does seem possible. Also, what if the leveling was made faster in the beta just so they could easily make sure everything was running smoothly? While I still don't understand why it would only be to level 20, I can see how it could be that.

I've heard on a few websites the max level is 20 then the game is all about gear. It's basically doing what WoW does. You hit max level then gear determines everything.

I really hope it's not true. In the beta, I hit level 8 in about 3 hours, if that. I hope there's gonna be like 300 levels OR 20 takes a long time to get. Meaning the xp from 10 - 11, 11 - 12, etc gets massive so it takes days/weeks.

I want level to mean something then the gear to just be added.

Personally, I believe that the gear shown in the beta that requires level 20 was just to get us pumped that it is so close. I think that the required level for the gear will change when the game comes out to a much higher level such as 50 or maybe 100

But again, it does not take only three hours to get to in the real game, thats only in the beta, so they made you rank up faster

In my opinion the level 8 cap didn't affect me that much.
I found myself often using the cryptarch to get better armor.
I'd play for 3-4 missions, then go decode my engrams.
By the end of the Beta I had an armor rating of 159.

It is level 20 because you are supposed to max all characters. You are not just supposed to play one character

The max level isn't 20 because you get rewarded orb of mote's for gaining experience after level 20.
