Are these 35-40 games all back to back? How many downs in each game did you have? Stats do not count towards ranking up. It has been COMFIRMED by the developers that you need to maintain high round games all in a row with minimal downs , there by increasing your skill as a survivor, to rank up successfully.

Your average round can be tracked by the games in your player channel. If you stop playing and let your recently played games clear out you "reset" your average back to zero. So then you can start a string of higher round games, getting your average up quicker, not going down, and raising that skill level in order to move to rank 5.
