I personally have never used the service, mainly because I have no need to, but I was just wondering if any of you have. I spoke with a Geek Squad member before just to see if they knew what they were talking about, asked some usual troubleshooting questions to them, and sadly I was disappointed with the responses. If any of you have used them before, what was your experience like?

Most of them just need a job and have no idea what they are talking about, especially the ones in my area. My parents hired one to fix their pc (before I knew how)he sat there for 2 hours doing nothing, had to call his supervisor to help him.

imgur wrote Haven't they been proven to practically be scammers? Last I heard they got caught taking advantage of people who don't know any better.

I can't watch the video right now, but I believe this is the one I am referring to.
Wow, I wasn't able to find this kind of video. But it seems a little fishy that they charge so much for their services(unless you get a membership) when:
1. It is easy stuff to do for the most part and requires little work.
2. Their hiring process isn't very detailed on technical knowledge, just cut and dry customer support questions.
I actually looked into working for them since there is a best buy in my town, but after speaking with some of them & looking at the application process, it seems like a huge joke to me. I feel like they find out if you know good CSR skills and they wing it on the technical side of things.

I would say that the geek squad is useless... I know my sister took a Dell Mini netbook to them becuase it something wrong with it and they had it for three days and told her that they knew no way to fix it.
I took a look at it and seen that the SSD firmware was corrupted I managed to reflash the firmware on it and install windows 7 on it.
I told her not to bother with them anymore that I would look at her computer issues for now on.

I am the same way, I have just told everyone in my family if they have a problem to call me. Needless to say some of them still go and use useless services.

That happens to me as well, some times my family don't trust me with their hardware and the say they would rather have a paid profession do it.
But it usually ends the same way it ends up with me looking at it after the "professional" looks at it and can not fix it, lol.

Anymore, anyone that knows how to turn a computer on thinks they are a "Professional." I am currently enrolled in college for a CIT-Network Administration degree(2nd year student) plus 2 years taking technical courses in High School my Junior and Senior year. I don't claim to be a professional, I just know everything I need to know to repair systems.

Here is a recent interaction with a Geek Squad Agent. The point was to see if they could tell me how to stop the programs starting on OS boot, I threw in the computer restart as a bonus. Needless to say, I was "partially" impressed with some of the responses.
