I Have a mac and play gmod all the time i dont get any bad fps or lag you should be fine.

Check out [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] page. I think its going to be hard to upgrade your mac to be honest.

I think you should invest in a desktop rather than upgrading a mac as it might be costing you the same.
