I've had an iPhone since the iPhone 4 that came out about 3 years ago or so. I have the 5 right now. I will be getting a replacement because of the draining battery problem. Anyways, the plan is to give the replacement to my mother and I'll use her upgrade.
So, what to get?
I really like what I sear/hear about the Galaxy S5.
I would not mind a switch from Apple at all.
My dad has the s3 note and he loves that. (Same price as the S5 if I do the 2-year contract)
Any other suggestions or recommendations, please let me know!

Yes i am completely with you, i had a iphone 4 for about 3 years. i just got the galaxy S5 & i love it! i will never ever go back to apple or ios products unless i get an ipad.
The S5 resolution is 1080p, 16gb memory, 2gb ram and runs really fast.
you can also root it which is like jailbreaking for android, which makes it even better.
I would recommend the S5

Yes the S5 Specs are superior to any of the Iphones. I would recommend that if you want a bigger screen, speed, and more customization if you root it(like roms).

My advice is to go for the LG Nexus 5. Not only is it a fantastic device, but it's the first device to receive android updates.
