Ok so I play competitive cod and have to play on wifi since my router/modem (I don't really know the difference) is in the other room. is there any way I can have my own router in my room so I can play online wired? Would I have to connect the router in my room to the one the other room? Please help, thanks.

you can have one in your room but you need a cable wire going into it

Explanation
So the CAT5 cable goes to your Modem. It supplies the internet to your house from the outside.
You can then use a router to have that internet anywhere in your house whether it would be through WIFI or a wired connection.
The Modem and router have to be connected via an Ethernet cable
You can connect to the router using Wifi - which your doing now, which allows you to have internet without plugging it into the device, but compromises on speed.
Or you can use an Ethernet cable from the router into your console which is a much better option IMO.

Just get a router that can act as a repeater or flash a compatible one with custom firmware such as DD-WRT that will allow you to connect the 2nd router to the main one and extend the range of your network and give you up to 5 wired connections.
I use one of them as the walls in my house are solid and kill the wireless signal just a couple rooms away.
