Daily Mail wroteA 17-year-old, Kendra Turner, was suspended from school after telling a fellow student 'bless you' after they sneezed.
Kendra says a teacher at Dyer County High School in Tennessee has banned her and her classmates from using Church speech in the classroom, but she didn't think it was that big of a deal when a fellow student sneezed, and she used the common expression.
On Tuesday, Kendra's parents met with school leaders and at the meeting the teacher involved said Kendra was being 'disruptive' and 'aggressive' in class.
She explained that Kendra had shouted the phrase from the other side of the classroom and then continued to defend her use of the phrase when the teacher called her out for breaking the rules.
Many students at the school have shown their support for Kendra by making their own 'Bless You' t-shirts. Kendra says she doesn't want any trouble for the teacher, but wants it known that 'it's alright to defend God'.
'It's our constitutional right because we have a freedom of religion and freedom of speech,' she said.

In my opinion, this is stupid. Banning someone for practising good manners is ridiculous, but what do you guys think? Did the teacher/school make the right decision?

I am atheist, and I still use the phrase bless you. I have never tied 'bless you' and religion together. This is crazy.. 'Merica

I mean, technically that went against the rules they apparently laid out, but that didn't deserve a suspension. That was worth a warning at most. It is a very common phrase. How does a single teacher suspend her anyway? How did this pass by the principal? If I missed that part, my bad. It just blows my mind though.

It's hysterically idiotic if this story is how it sounds, but you never know the back-story, that is, if there is one.

How exactly is saying the phrase "bless you" 'disruptive' and 'aggressive'? All she was doing was being polite. I would understand the disruptive part if the class was doing a test or some type of important classwork and the class was completely silent, but since it doesn't really say I cant see how the student was disruptive. Now it also says that she "shouted", I from personal experience know that sometimes teachers will exaggerate just to get you in trouble, unless she really did say it in a very loud way then I still don't see how she was being so called "disruptive" since she was just being polite and you see lots of people using the phrase.
If I were in that class, the first day that I saw those class rules I would have gone to the principal and informed her about them as I find it ignorant for a teacher to in a way ban students from using their manners in class. I agree with Kendra on this 'It's our constitutional right because we have a freedom of religion and freedom of speech,' but she has to understand that the schools have the right to not allow religious topics in school since students of other religions can be offended by something, but in this case I don't see her as doing anything wrong.
