My mate is building me a PC as I know next to nothing about what PC parts are good or bad, are these specs he quoted 400-450 for good?

CPU: intel Pentium K Series Anniversary Haswell
Motherboard: Asus H81M-E
Memory: 8GB Corsair DDR3 1600
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R7 265 2GB
Hard Drive: 500GB Seagate Hybrid Drive
Optical Drive: LiteOn DVD-RW
Operating System: Windows 7 64-Bit

I told him to increase the hard drive to a TB but should I stick with the hybrid or get a SSD?

It really depends on what games you planning on playing, minecraft and games like that should run well, for games such as dayz, bf4 etc I don't know but you could always upgrade your processor and graphics card in the future or save up more for a better pc so if you decide to play high demanding games then atleast you know you will be able to play them

Don't bother with an SSD yet. Change to a 1TB HDD for mass storage capacity and add an SSD in the future. Change that horrid motherboard. Try to get a Z87 or Z97 chipset board within budget. If not, get a decent B85 chipset board. Save money by getting 4GB RAM instead of 8GB. Change the R7 265 to an R9 270. Then, once a little more money is available, add an extra 4GB RAM. No need to pay for Win7, you can easily get it for free.

Get a 1TB HDD they're like 5 quid more

The rest is fine. It will run every game on the market with no problems. I have a Pentium K with a 270X and a Z97 motherboard and I thought the Pentium K would need an upgrade, but honestly, it's fine.

For 400 quid it's a good build and should serve him well.

Just get a 1TB HDD for now and then add an SSD when you have a little more cash.

This is what i'd get, waaay better overclockable motherboard, and a better graphics card. Also don't bother with SSHD's, just get crap HDD's now and replace them with SSD's when you can.

Essentially the same unless you're a power user. Z97 supports Haswell-Refresh processors from launch, however many late release Z87 boards like the Z87M are likely to have BIOS support for those by now anyhow.

Z97 also added a few things to the chipset like SATAExpress and M.2 I believe.

According to the dude that quoted me for the pc said that the haswell overclocks so theres no need to change the board as it'lljust waste money
