I myself have not had this error so I can't help you from my personal experience, but I found some stuff that might help you.
Also, what version are you on, and what device are you using or trying to update to iOS8?

Thanks for your time, I'm running 7.1.2 with the pangu jailbreak. I would like to update to iOS8 that's all. I don't care about losing my data, also my phone seems to get read as a camera which is also very confusing.
Update: After fussing around for hours I plugged my phone into my mac and everything ran smoothly, I now have iOS 8 up and working after restoring my phone.

I guess if you didn't have your mac you could've tried putting your iphone into DFU mode then try to update.

Lol nope both DFU mode and restore mode did not work out for me.
