Yeah that happens, you could make a new account from the US and it'll redeem just fine. When I had MSP from the UK I had to make a UK account to redeem the code since I'm from the US. You could try migrating your account to a US account but I don't know if that will work, and you could only do it once every 3 months so just know that. Also, if you have any American friends that happen to have a UK code you could swap with them, kinda risky though if you don't know them very well and the chances of finding some people like that are a bit slim.
