My dad cutted 4S micro sim to 5S nano sim yesterday, it's so easy.. Nothing will be effected. Everything will work out fine as soon as you do it correctly.

The only thing that would/could be affected would be what radio band you can pick up.

On newer phones with access to LTE, like the 5s, you usually do need a new sim card. If your simcard is under a year old then you are probably ok. If it is a sim card you have had for a few years then you might only pick up 3g or 4g compared to LTE.

But as far as Voice and text go that sim card will be fine.

Cutting your SIM to make it fit in the new phone is perfectly fine to do and is really easy. There are videos on YouTube showing how to do it for certain phones even.

Just be careful and make sure that you do not mess up your SIM in the process.
