It's entertainment and not a job? Bands, movie stars, professional wrestlers, and athletes all make careers, and they are all entertainment. There are many people who make YouTube videos that make a real living. Some that I watch that seem to be making a living are the entire Achievement Hunter team from Rooster Teeth, The Amazing Atheist, Emma Blackery, The Young Turks, and Ray William Johnson. I am sure Jaclyn Glenn falls under that category as well. How can't it be a career?

Lil_Bibby wrote You kids don't understand the point gaming isn't something to look for the future
it can only be a career if you make it there which is unlikely
and messi ive met him before when he came to Chicago for messi and friends he said he's played all his life and never gave up anyone would know that if they knew messi
but its something to work for at age 30
start young so you don't waste your time doing it older but still you most likely won't make it big
and why would I be jealous? I don't even make videos never have no need to be jealous when I have money for my needs and entertainment purposes

The fact is in today's society. A job can be anything. If you are making an actual living off of it, which in this case, youtube. It is a job.

Ex: If you quit working at McDonalds. You don't get payed anymore. You lose you're job.

If a youtuber quits making videos. They won't get payed anymore.

In my opinion it is a career if you're a big YouTuber. You don't have a career until you get up and do something with your life.

Well from the title of your post you're saying that "youtube is a career."

So to your wife and kids what do you tell them when you are going work and just into the next room? YouTube was made for entertainment purposes but then people were like oh boi its my job now who needs to become a doctor or sports athlete when I don't even have to leave my house to make money
and this post wasn't targeted towards the big YouTube people it was for the wannabes but still you don't get any benefits off it

Its no different than being a professional comedian, athlete, actor, musician, and so on. The chances of making it (to have youtube as your only job) are slim, but you're still getting paid for doing what you enjoy.

yes lmao there is a very very small handful of youtubers who get that far, do the math how many people who are trying to get youtube famous as oppose to who really are, thats like a 50,000,000 to 1 ratio

Lil_Bibby wrote For all the little kids with no education YouTube is nowhere close to a career
What are the odds of becoming famous probably 1and every 1million
YouTube will not get you money to pay the bills to feed your kids if you ever have any which I do (won't go into that) won't get you a nice car won't get you money for insurance won't get you a nice house won't get you money for anything really that is actually needed
and what benefits does it give you? Absolutely nothing why would you want that people need to step into the real world of life and need to see you can't make a living off of something that was just made for fun
it annoys me that people are like oh yea I play cod all day and record sign me a contract its stupid videogames is not a job its ENTERTAINMENT PEOPLE not a job
you won't be laughing when your in the streets begging for money

I actually agree with you; for the vast majority of people, YouTube isn't a career. Sure, there's PewDiePie, Smosh, and a select few thousand who get paid thousands, even millions for videos that they post on YouTube. But again, they're the select few.

I don't think he's trying to say that YouTube itself isn't a viable career for everyone, because it is a career for a few people. But, since only a couple thousand people can actually generate enough money to live off of YouTube, and turn it into an actual career, it is a very hard industry to come close to making a living in. As a result, for most people, it is not a career, but a hobby.

YouTube, for most people will not make enough money for them to pay their bills, feed kids, etc. And for most people, YouTube is just a hobby, not an actual career where they get paid enough to sustain themselves.

People might mention acting, professional sports, etc, and say that the same rules apply. And largely, they do. Only a few can truly call professional sports a career, and those are people who play in leagues and get compensation for what they do. For the rest, it's a hobby, not a career. Same with acting, and other interests.

YouTube can be a career. But what I don't understand is the 14 year olds coming home from school everyday, putting aside their education, to focus on COD and YouTube in an attempt to make it big. The amount of people in the "Youtube scene" is ridiculous. Wasting their life on a lost hope (almost all of them) that will get you no where.
