Friend has an FX 4100

He's experiencing abnormally high temps

Tried reseating/applying new paste

No benefit.

I want to downclock his CPU as a temporary fix until he can get a new heatsink

I'm going to reduce the speed to 2.5ghz

Now what should I set the other voltages/vcore to?

Update:

Set the vcore to 1.200000

Testing.

What is the temperature, and spec of the system? Does the inside of his case get suitable airflow from the case fans?

Temperature reaches upwards of 50c on netflix alone. Playing Path of Exile on lowest settings for 30 minutes bought it to 63c.

Rest of the system is healthy, no problems here.

If the processor cooler is working correctly, it could be that the fan isn't spinning fast enough or that case airflow needs improvement. Fans can be adjusted using manufacturer software or other tools online. Also you can use the BIOS to alter the voltage for the processor, as it will use a AUTO setting which can result in slightly higher temps than necessary.

All you'd need to do would be to keep the multiplier at the stock value then test voltages until you can find one that can support the turbo clock speed at all times.

It's a stock heatsink, so I've watched the rpm go from 2.7k to 3.2k dependant on load

Having lowered the vcore and bus multiplier, I've bought the temps on Path of Exile down from 63 to 51. I'll do some fiddling with fan profiles but I believe 51 to be quite sufficient

Yeah 62c will be the core recommended max temp then soon after it would cut out to protect itself. You could consider a relatively cheap cooler upgrade, even a single stack heatsink would improve things.

I agree. Fans, aftermarket cooling systems, heatsinks, etc any of which would help with the temp issue your friend is having.
