I have a sort of old lap top here are the specs
Intel i3 2.7ghz
4.00 GB RAM (3.7 Useable)
a Intergrated sound card/chip
2 cores
I am asking for it for christmas and i just wanna make shure i will be able to use it and if so should i get a USB so i dont have to use up all of my RAM.

The best place to check would be against what is listed on the manufacturers website but why would using a USB reduce the ammount of RAM that gets used? it connects to your machine via USB anyway does'nt it?

It makes perfect sense.
I think he means if he downloads some RAM, puts it onto hes USB stick and puts that into hes laptop, he will be able to render quicker.
Thats how rendering works...
