There is so many good first cars kind of depends what you are looking for. I would suggest finding a car with not too many miles and good MPG.

I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier and it gets really good gas mileage just yesterday I was on a half tank of gas, proceeded to put 10 dollars of gas in the car, started it up and it was at full, I think it gets like 26 or something mpg maybe better. I'm 16 BTW

As a first car I would prefer getting a Honda Civic or something that is decent on gas that will allow you to afford car payments and insurance without having to worry about being to much in debt etc.. My first car was a 2003 Cavalier.

Something with a 1.0 or 1.2 litre engine that returns good MPG.

I'd suggest a Buick Regal. I've always had Buicks in the family and I'd have to say the Regal is my favorite so far. Nice sturdy car with a roomy inside. As long as you're not a tall fella like me or sitting behind one. =P My poor brother has no room behind me. and I hit the roof while sitting up.
