these cars have a electric fuel pump in the tank. so here is the thing
when you turn the key on listen closely to see if you hear the fuel pump come on. if it doesn't then i would say the fuel pump is bad in the car. they give no warning at all and just die.
being the car starts and shuts off i am willing to bet this is the problem it only starts for a second. cause its trying to start and may only have enough fuel in the line to do that. or that its trying to start and isnt starting.
if you are getting fuel and will start with a jump start then i would say its the battery.
say you get it started by jump starting it you will need to see if the battery is charging should have a amp gage on the dashboard console you can always check the battery with a volt meter before and after to see if the battery has 12volts or 14+ volts when running to see if the battery is charging... if its not charging then either a dead cell in the battery or bad alternator
these are simple checks that will not cost you money to diagnose as for getting them repaired it can be expensive

If the car cranks and the lights all work inside then it can't be the battery. Try alternator like others suggested or it maybe be the starter.

When your alternator goes, it goes. So it turns on then cuts off? If so then I would say your alternator. If not, then possibly the starter solenoid. Be sure to check the fuel lines and see if you can smell gas. Maybe the fuel filter is clogged and your car isn't getting enough gas? It could be a variety of issues. Maybe you can call your insurance company and have them tow it to a repair shop for you?

It might be the battery, you should use jumper cables and see if it works, if that doesn't work, it could be the terminals or you're battery, try testing the battery before purchasing a new battery. -Source it happened to my friends car.
