Hi there,
i have recently realised that my amd FX4170 is not compatible with my gigabyte ga-78lmt-s2p
because it is a rev 3.1 and not a rev 5.0 so my processor will not boost itself from 2.8ghz
to 4.2 because the parts are not compatible. so if anyone knows of any compatible cheap parts i could buy to get my pc running at full potential, my fps is terrible due to this problem and any help is much appreciated.

BIOS update will fix your issue.

If you're adamant about an upgrade, we need a budget and currency to work with.

Hi Craig the bios update didn't work because the version of my mother board doesn't match the cpu because they are not compatible as it is version 5.0 not 3.2 any ideas ?

Not Craig, long story.

Anyway, rev3.1 should be compatible with the F5a BIOS update which you can get from here;

Update the BIOS and you should be good to go.

Again, if you want an upgrade, we'd need a budget and currency, but at this point I'm not sure if you want to resolve this issue or just upgrade.

The thing is that I have Rev 5.0 so I can't upgrade to more than f4 and this processor is not compatible with this version of the motherboard, I'll send links now

I see. I thought you meant the motherboard you had was rev3.1

You could upgrade a compatible CPU if you wish, which would be your cheapest option.

I'd probably grab a 6300 if it were me. 4300, 6300 or 8300 should be fine.
