I live in Parma Ohio, and my school district was granted 2.3 million dollars by Apple, and with the money this is what happened...

The students from the following grade levels received:

Elementry School - Mini iPads

Middle School - Standard iPads

High School (What I am in) - 11 inch MacBook Airs

I am actually on it right now, because they are ours to keep until final graduation. At that point they will be returned to the school. All Seniors computers will be given to the new freshman. So if you're given a MacBook freshman year, you will keep it all the way until graduation (including summer breaks).

Just wanted to share this with you guys to see how you guys felt about this or if you have similar programs in your school!

I mean its a good idea, seems like it would cost a lot of money for the school though.

I already have a mac book pro so It wouldn't affect me very much, but I could see this being really useful for learning in class as everyone will have the same system and software to use.

Don't most, if not all, household kids have their own computers? so wouldn't the mac just be wasteful?

I'm basing this off my current position and if i were given a mac book by my school. I a have a highend gaming desktop, and a decent laptop. In addition a huge PC fanboy that cringes when he touches a macbook.

ALSO, Kids at this school were given laptops and were not told they were being spied on through their webcam.

This was a similar situation for my old High school except they were 1st generation Mac Books. They were quite useful but after years in circulation, they started falling apart because people kept such poor care of them.

We are actually required to get protective cases, and if any damage whatsoever is done we have to pay in full to fix them. We spent two class periods learning all the rules and consequences of having one of these.

A couple years ago my school wasn't passing the levy and we almost closed one of the biggest high schools in Cleveland.
