So I was playing football manager and it crashed, I was in fullscreen so I had to close it in the task manager. (Cntrl+alt+del) when it finally closed, my screen saver was just black and all my game.rar files were gone from my desktop, I then noticed skype, gyazo steam had closed and their icon was just a white box. Upon restarting my computer nothing had fixed itself and it seems that everything installed has kind of uninstalled itself, I had to reinstall steam etc. On my start bar all the files are empty now. Microsoft word, paint etc have gone but I can still use 'open with: Paint' etc. Its like this with alot of things and its just so inconvenient so I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to fix this or what happened? All I did was end process on football manager after it crashed in full screen mode.
Also all steam games uninstalled which is a pain because I have to reinstall 30 games.

Try making a new user account and see if your programs are assigned as shortcuts in the start menu. Do you have antivirus installed? Install Malwarebytes/Hitman Pro and run a scan, could be infected.

malware bytes is not an anti virus its an anti malware also hit man pro is just demand scanner, that's not good enough for 100% disinfection.

I wasn't saying Malwarebytes was not an anti-malware I was saying Hitman Pro/Malwarebytes can be a quick fix due to high detection rates and Malwarebytes Chameleon built in...
If that doesn't fix the problem YA7B_ can you do system restore?

Malwarebytes has awful detection rates against zero day malware, also hitman pro is more of a cookie cleaner in my opinion, running malwarebytes and hitman pro is not even a quick fix in this situation. YA7B_ PM me I can help you resolve the issue.

I forgot to add system restore is not necessary at all, please do not suggest it.
