When you are creating your team, what does it say? Are you sure you are clicking on the correct thing?

I think I may know what's going on.

Now, MLG has so many scripts on the page its unreal, reload scripts so the page reloads after a cetain amount of time, so you can't go into developer mode and change the text on screen, there are also scripts to determine where you are from, your internet or IP could be going through a proxy which is in a different country, so the MLG servers might see you as someone who lives somewhere else than America. I am in the UK and I have signed up to the Singes and the Single EU ladders.

I'd email MLG and ask them to do it for you.

Oh yes, I haven't been on in a few weeks, I guess you would just go for the International, sorry.
