Lyriical wrote Favoritism, thats all it is.

Weather people like your post or not, they don't bother with rep unless you gift them gold or give them a 48 hour.

Back in the day their was negative rep, which was used more often then positive in most cases, which people did complain about as they lost rep power but I don't understand the whole concept of it to be honest, it's just another thing to love or hate I guess.

I for one couldn't care less if I had 1000 rep or 0 rep, I know deep down I helped enough people to have more rep then those who have 1000 rep cause they probably just beg for it, by doing things that aren't exactly helpful but are mostly rewarding.

In my opinion.

I know what you mean. I don't beg for it at all. I help everyone I can to the best of my ability and that feels rewarding itself, but it just feels nice to get something in return once in a while. And as I said before, the only reason why I care for rep is because it looks more trustworthy. For example, if I see someone with tons of rep roaming the forum, its automatic for us to think they are more trustworthy. This is because their rep is a big number. We associate bigger numbers with better things. Another reason is because since they have a lot of rep, many people must have +repped them. Since a lot of people +repped them, they must be helpful.

Then this happens. This topic wasn't a cry for rep. I don't want your rep if I don't deserve it. This was only a rant about this misuse of rep and not so much me crying about not having enough rep.

Edit: Another two people just + 1 repped me...

I've been around TTG for a while now and I've seen people posting garbage just to get their comment post up to get more rep. So there's that as an issue as well :p

Rep isn't the only source of validity for statements on TTG. Let's use your example of somebody who has five reputation power; you say that someone who has a 'low' reputation power would not be as highly regarded, but mostly anyone can sell items on TTG in the marketplace sections so long as those items fall within the rules. A new user could easily start a shop and be given trusted seller, or post enough proof and service enough of their merchandise that users would regard them as trusted even though they may not be reputable under the rep system of TTG.

--- You also mentioned the reputation system not being used enough, or being used too much; I think this is both true and untrue at the same time. Using my example from above, if a user is buying something from a seller who has a low reputation by TTG's standards, they are likely paying a hefty amount for such services. JTAGs and RGHs aren't a cheap luxury, so I think when a person dishes out $75+ for a modified console, or custom controllers, the liberties that they dish out when spending that money is going to be a lot more useful to the merchant than reputation power on a website.

This being said, reputation isn't entirely meaningless, but it isn't everything.

I rest my case.
