$240 could get a pretty poor APU rig right now, but it just wouldn't be worth it IMO. It would be worth saving even $400 or so, that could get you a nice Intel rig without a GPU and you could then save for a nice GPU, maybe wait for the new AMD cards. This all depends on your financial situation obviously, but what I can guarantee is that buying a GPU now and no other components would be a bad move.
Just an option, something that you might be able to do?

+$70 or so for a locked i5. Add another 4GB RAM when you can, and an HDD for mass storage. Then add a dedicated GPU for gaming purposes. Then you'd have a fairly good PC. The PSU will support a 390(x) at release so could potentially be worth waiting for the new AMD cards. Plus, the Z97 supports overclocking and Broadwell CPUs, for upgradability.

Do elaborate, please.
@RS4- Not really. Games are more GPU demanding than CPU, but there are those few that I hear are pretty dependent on CPU performance. However, an i3+970 would be better than an i7+260x.

Or how about someone that knows a thing or two stops an individual from spending unnecessary money until that said individual can put it to proper use, Which is what Sanctyy was recommending.

I'd go with a GTX 960. It's the best "value" card that you can get right now. It's one of the best cards for your budget.
If you want to buy the PC part by part that is fine.
Worst case you can just well the part to a friend or on ebay if you don't get to building it.

Not true. R9 285 and sometimes, even the 280x are cheaper and better than the GTX 960. 960 is only really logical right now if you get a good deal on it, or if you need a very efficient card(compared to the 280x).

You shouldn't really be suggesting or recommending that OP does this. It's a good way to end up with an unbalanced rig, components going to waste or just wasting money.

Again, this would be a waste of money since you likely won't be able to get the same back as what you paid for the component(s) so lose out on money without having even used the component(s)?
