Hello everybody!

Before I begin, I understand I may receive some hateful expressions regarding the project. That's understandable as there is already a "professional" version of a 2D Minecraft game, Terraria. But, I'm willing to risk it and create this thread anyway.

Now then. I have always sort-of been fascinated with Minecraft and since I have never actually liked Terraria, I began working on a little project called Elements2D around a week and a half ago.

Programming Language: Java.

Please keep in mind: This is my first game I've ever created so it's more of a learning experience.

In that time, I have done:

    - Basic pre-set world creation and randomly generated.
    - Player physics with a player camera.
    - Block placing and destroying. (Not yet able to actually collect the blocks that are mined.)
    - Image loading and rendering for each block in the world based on a tileset created in Photoshop. (Still a work in progress. Each block needs it's own class.)
    - Hot bar and inner inventory drawing and usage. (Not fully complete, still unable to drag/drop blocks in inventory but you may select a block from the hot bar to place.)
    - Currently 5 types of blocks: Dirt, Grass, Stone, Wood and Leaves.
    - Probably some other things I can't remember right now...

Please excuse my horribly drawn textures. I am not at all an artist.
Anyway, if you'd like to keep up with development or have any personal questions you do not wish to reply with, add my Skype: xolitudemodz

I will also be posting development updates on this thread, not in replies. So also, keep up-to-date with those!

-Updates-

Update #1 (April 4th, 3:38 AM): Inventory system is semi-working. (You are able to drag and drop blocks in different sectors of the inventory; includes hotbar and full-view inventory. Other parts of the inventory need work.)

Update #2 (April 5th, 9:54 PM): Implemented a working day-night cycle. Still needs some work because the code is quite messy.

Update #3 (April 6th, 8:17 PM): Randomized player spawning.

Update #4 (April 6th, 9:43 PM): Started working on adding/removing items to the inventory; basic checks happen so items are added if that item doesn't already exist. (No stack-counts are added yet.)

Update #5 (April 8th, 9:15 PM): Fixing up a few inventory bugs to stop a mined block from being added to both the hotbar and the main inventory simultaneously.

Update #5.5 (April 9th, 1:48 AM): Fixed up a small tile-switching bug in the inventory. Last 'official' part of the inventory to fix is item stacks.

Well, it's not quite developed enough and there really isn't a whole lot to "try." When I create the Main Menu GUI, then yes, I will post a download link

Thank you for your interest!

Eh... I think about doing that everyday but copy-pasting isn't much fun nor is that allowed.

It's not copy and pasting. It makes the game visually appealing.
Why make a 2d style Minecraft game and not include authentic looking textures?

You have no legal trouble as long as you aren't selling it.
Copying and pasting would be claiming it as your own work.

I completely understand that xD I almost couldn't either until I actually began developing it myself and looking past the differences. But thank you!

Well... Someone remade a Super Mario 64 level in Unity3D and Nintendo told him to take it down and he was not selling it. He used their game textures and sounds. I believe I'd get in some legal trouble.

That's because it was Nintendo. He used on of the most iconic figures in video game history. Nintendo has different polices. Plus you aren't recreating a full level from a game using using Nintendo assets.

There are mods for gmod, skyrim and even youtube intros that use "Minecraft-esc" models, textures, and sounds.

Using textures the textures from minecraft will be fine. You will have no legal trouble.
