I really don't understand what people mean when they say this.

SimplyDank wrote This question has always had me thinking, it deepens my heart when I think too deep about it and I honestly think this is a topic no-one should talk about too much as you can end up thinking deep like I do and get scarred for life. Im like a middle school philosopher :eh:

So deep.
This question barely scratches the surface of philosophy and it mostly comes down to semantics.
How people define meaning, and whether meaning can be applied by a conscious being to itself.

The main answers people get without invoking a higher power are, 'None' or 'You give life meaning' and both are valid depending on how you define 'meaning.'

The only really intriguing answer I've ever seen to this question was a method of determining the meaning of life proposed by Arthur Schopenhauer.
He said that we should wait until we are about to die and take a net valuation of our life in hindsight, look at the complete picture, to see the meaning.
This bypasses much of the semantic business because the meaning doesn't change over time like one applied when the subject is 19 or 20 through to when they are 40 or 50.

Life is a lot like a painting in this way.
The artist can either give meaning to it before he begins, or he can give meaning to it after he has finished.
The artist in this case being either God, in the former, or you, in the latter.

For me, it doesn't matter if life has meaning, I'm more interested in why we think it has to.
Flowers grow and die and nobody questions their meaning.
Humans grow and die and everybody questions our meaning.

Even if we did find some predetermined meaning, what is the meaning of that meaning?
Eventually things must become tautologous and be by definition meaningless.
EG: "We exist because we exist."

I think we just become someone else like as in we just start a whole new beginning

Getting born and having a new start.

I really can't see it just being nothing for the whole of eternity its weird when you think about it.

Siri told me that all evidence to date suggests that chocolate is the meaning of life.

A few of my friends actually believe in reincarnation too. I just imagine it to be what it was like before you was born.

I personally think we are just a dot inside something much larger than life we know. I can't describe what that something is but it's almost like a server or a memory storage but something that our human brains can't understand. To us this life and universe is everything but I think on a larger scale we are just a dot in the system.
This may sound stupid and crazy but I think differently to the "normal" person for certain reasons

It doesn't sound dumb. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if that's yours so be it! That really reminded me of that Doctor Who episode where the Master comes back as a woman... xD
